Antonino La Vela Art: exploring the Vivid World of the "SSGR" Series

In a particularly artistically sterile phase of my life, where mundane realities felt overwhelmingly constrictive, I turned to the canvas as my escape hatch. These paintings, crafted with acrylic on 30x50 cm canvas boards, became my sanctuary—a vibrant parallel world where I could express myself without the constraints of the external world.

The "SSGR" series stands out for its daring use of color and form, each piece meticulously assembled to burst with dynamic movement and emotion, suggesting a narrative open to viewer interpretation. The strength of this series lies in its ability to evoke different emotions through color and composition alone.

Individual Critiques:

1. SSGR 1: This piece is a festival of purple and green, where each brushstroke rebels against the greyness of routine life; each element a testament to the internal landscapes I yearned to explore.

2. SSGR 2: Here, the cool blue background contrasts with the vibrant, warm foreground. This painting captures an almost floral aesthetic, radiating energy and life, reflective of natural growth and the freedom found in creative exploration.

3. SSGR 3: Dark, punctuated by bright colors, this piece speaks of mystery and depth. The dense composition invites viewers to uncover the layers of shapes and meanings, a narrative of transformation from silence into a symphony of colors.

4. SSGR 4: Featuring lighter, whimsical entries with pastel backgrounds and floating shapes, this painting feels like a gentle dream, soft and inviting, symbolizing the journey from inertia into a dance of shapes.

5. SSGR 5: The bold contrast of dark and bright elements creates a striking visual impact. The central form suggests the feminine triangle, drawing viewers into a visionary experience of introspection and personal freedom.

6. SSGR 6: Angular and curved forms coexist in an almost architectural manner. This balance between elements suggests a modernist sculpture, playful yet structured, each hue a shade of my dreams and desires.

7. SSGR 7: Combines organic shapes with geometric precision, creating dynamic tension that is both unsettling and captivating. The rich, earthy palette grounds the ethereal forms, inviting viewers to enter and make their own rules.

Through these paintings, I was not just passing time; I was architecting a universe of my own design, where every element is imbued with a part of my spirit. How wondrous it is that in our darkest times, we can hold a brush and, with a few strokes, light up a whole new world that beckons us to enter and make our own rules.
